Show Question [07 Sep 2014|10:41am]

I know this community hasn't been updating in forever (6 years!) but I hope some of you are still around.

I went to an ApHC regional club show yesterday and was a little disappointed. I hadn't been to a "rated" appaloosa show for many years and I was hoping the peanut roller, broken lope horses had stopped being a thing - or at the very least - stopped being a *rewarded* thing. I saw several of these horses placing in the classes.

I'm just wondering if it's a regional thing, or if it's still a national thing? I hate seeing beautiful Appaloosas struggling to maintain artificially slow gaits and headsets.

Admittedly, I'm not in the western horse world. I ride English and I'm not there today to see the English classes so maybe I'm just ignorant and out of touch?

Enlighten me!

Me and My Appy! [14 Apr 2007|07:21pm]

[ mood | tired ]

Hey y'all, my name is Andrea, im 14, and am the proud rider of a 4 year old Appaloosa named Leroy [Ima Bold Bouncer]. He's not mine, unfortunatly, but his owners let me ride him whenever because they drive him. I've been riding for 6 years, [believe it or not:P]It's pretty awesome, I love him, even though he's still young and learning, he's the clumsiest, sweetest, calmest horse ever.  I'd love to talk to other appy lovers, and the such, so feel free to friend me :)

Im having a bit og picture problems so I promise I'll post them as soon as possible :)

Okay, I'll help liven things up here.. [04 Oct 2006|12:36am]

[ mood | bouncy ]

I went to the BAAA and IA ApHC show and futurity in Des Moines a few weekends ago to help my friends show their Imaginary Gold colts. I basically just went to watch, take pictures, and to be their designated gopher. Well, Ed hasn't shown in years and asked me if I would show his colt, I said SURE! So, I got to show in weanling halter for the first time ever! I'd never shown in a halter class before, just showmanship, and I really liked it. It's not about me, it's about the confirmation of the horse! YAY! Less pressure! That's what got me the most, I couldn't believe how lax it was... especially with the jumping and screaming weanlings! I just had to pick up and place their feet and make them set up. We ended up winning quite a bit of money! Enough to pay for the trip, plus some! We both placed well, the other colt doing better though!

It was great fun! I keep looking out in the field for who I can halter next! LOL

how's everyone's show season? [20 Jul 2006|12:13am]

[ mood | happy ]

I haven't done too many shows this year. Only two, one schooling show and the other a Dressage Breed show.

The first few are from summerish of last year. The second are from the Dressage Breed Show in Morven Park.

Take note of all the new spots. :)

She was a little stiff in the rear, so her score would have been higher if she wasn't sore. I was happy with how she showed. She acted crazy, but when she was in the arena she was quiet.

I started working with her again under saddle. She's doing awesome. She's trotting well and today we did cavelletis, took 'em like a pro. Going to concentrate on trotting more on the next two weeks before we try and tackle the canter.

Already thinking about 2007's Show Season.
I want to go to the Raleigh shows, because they have Pre-Green Hunter and the other over fence classes. I've free jumped her and she has awesome form. So by next year she should be all good.
SEnding her to my friend who does eventing, so she'll have some more schooling. I want to try and do showmanship with her so I can work on my Non-Pro Superior, but I dunno.
Also want to do the Upper Marlboro and Lexington ApHC shows.

For the rest of this year, just doing two more Dressage Breed Shows, 1 in FAir Hill which as a Appy Sporthorse class(which she's also reg in that assoc) and Rosemont and a few local shows. YEah that was a long run-on sentence. hehe.

Hope everyone's show season is going well.

ApHC news! [17 Jun 2006|10:12am]

[ mood | hopeful ]

For those that haven't heard, the Appaloosa Horse Club has a new CEO.

From the website:
"The Appaloosa Horse Club Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Steve Taylor as the organization’s CEO beginning August 1, 2006. Taylor has served as executive director of the Missouri Beef Industry Council for the past 19 years and also has ties to the Appaloosa industry as a former breeder, exhibitor and volunteer. The council is part of the industry network responsible for the famous “Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner” advertising campaign.

In addition to experience with state, national and international marketing programs, Taylor has earned the designation of Certified Association Executive from the American Society of Association Executives.

“We believe it’s especially important to have someone with Steve’s experience in association management, consumer marketing, public relations and producer communications,” said Frank Larrabee, ApHC President. “The Appaloosa Horse Club is poised for some exciting opportunities and we’re delighted to have a staff team in place that can help lead the way,” added Larrabee.

Taylor is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and a former educator, livestock newspaper field representative and editor.

“I’m honored and humbled by the assignment,” said Taylor. “The Appaloosa community is very special and more prospective horse owners need to know about it. As the association moves forward, my simple and sincere goal is to stimulate and support growth in all aspects of Appaloosa involvement.”

The Appaloosa Horse Club is the international breed registry for Appaloosa horses and is located in Moscow, Idaho. Since 1938, the ApHC has been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the breed. Agile, intelligent and distinctively colorful, Appaloosas excel in a variety of events and are beloved around the world for their even temperaments and reliability."

Maybe this new leadership will help the Appy Club pull out of the funk it seems to be in lately! I hope so!
Maybe they could copy Wendys and have a "Where's the Spots?" campaign lol

Invitation to New Community! [16 Apr 2006|03:42pm]

[ mood | awake ]

Hey everyone! I didn't see a rule about not being able to post invitations for joining a community, but if there is, let me know and I'll delete!

I just made a Horse Barn/Farm community and am inviting anyone and everyone to join!! It is a community where the main theme is talking about their barns or farms (or others you have visited!) and commenting or asking questions about them. Just trying to bring the horse barns together to ask questions and give helpful suggestions!

Join here!: Horse Barns/Farms

Qualifying? [09 Apr 2006|10:59am]

Possibly a stupid question, but bear with me here, guys.

How exactly does one get to the National/Youth World Show? Do you have to qualify or is a "I think I'm good enough, so I'll show up" sort of thing? If you have to qualify, how? (I'm assuming by getting points at regional ApHC shows, but how many points do you have to get, how do you know when you're qualified...?) And does anyone know the difference between an open and a limited class? (As in a Ltd. 3 Yr. Old Western Pleasure Maturity vs. Open 3 Yr. Old Western Pleasure Maturity?)Please forgive all the questions. I normally frequent local shows (dressage!) and 4-H and I'm usually the only Appy at the show.

I ask this because I won the ApHC Junior Journalist contest and we're headed down that way. My aunt's taking me and she was thinking about, after seeing how his training goes, trailering Diamond down and showing him in the three year old western pleasure classes. We might take Queenie too and one of us will show her in halter. (Another question: Can youths show yearlings or is there an age limit? If there is an age thing, can youths also show in the non-pro division and by-pass the age limit?) By the way, Queenie is spotting out as I predicted. (Cassie 3, Everyone Else ZERO) I'll get y'all some pictures soon.

And, since our birthdays are this week, I was thinking about buying Ruby a show cooler/light sheet to help keep her clean the day before the show after I give her a bath. She's got a lot of white on her (pic!), so if she so much as touches anything, she gets filthy. Suggestions? Recommendations?

Kismet Farm? [23 Mar 2006|02:58pm]

Anybody know what happened to Kismet Farm? I tried going to their website today (used to be and it's not them anymore. They've also been (looks to me as a non-member) taken off the Appaloosa Sport Horse Association's site.

This was the farm that owned Wap Spotted.

Old horse gone bad! [28 Feb 2006|10:38pm]

So my first horse is about 21 years old this year....I sold him when he was 12 to a friend's little sister..but when she went away to college she gave him to the barn where we board so they could use him for lessons or lease him (She knows he will always be taken care of). Well hes decided now that hes done with this whole riding thing :) After a few different lesson kids got on him and kicked him..he now stops, backs up, rears and bucks everytime you squeeze him to trot!! They asked me to ride him to try to fix him, When i carry a whip hes fine..>ITs bad, but rather amusing!! I hope i can get him over this so he can find someone to love him!

Just thought id share. Its nice to get to ride him again at least :)

I am leaving (x-posted) [30 Nov 2005|03:38pm]

[ mood | depressed ]

Hey Guys ...

As some of you know ... I had to put Mooney down three weeks ago ... hardest thing ever. I don't even want to get into it. And reading these sites and stuff just makes me miss her so much more. So I think that for my emotional sanity I am going to step back for a bit. It is just to hard seeing and hearing about everyone riding their horses and stuff and that just makes me realise even more that she is gone. I know I probably sound really lame. But she was my soul mate ... my best friend ... and I am just lost right now without her. I am sure eventually I will return .. but for now I have to respectfully bow out. Thanks everyone for your advice and warming thoughts when I posted. You guys were such amazing friends. I want to send a special thanks to celticravenwolf .. who helped me address some specific issues and offered great advice to me .. like she does to all of you who listen. Thanks girl ... your advice was amazing and it really helped!

I have msn and am on frequently ... if you want to stay in contact you can e-mail or just add me to your msn

Thanks for everything guys ... I am going to miss all of you

Love people! [09 Oct 2005|09:05pm]

So I had the best weekend ever!

I went to Nj for my last appy show of the season and it was amazing... I finished my Youth Superior Championship Award, which is the highest award a youth can recieve... okay so here are the specifics---

350 points are to be earned for this award. These points must be earnedin a minimumof five horse shows under a minimum of five jugdes.Of the 350 points, a minimum of 105 Showmanship at halter, a minimum of 140 points must be earned in Performance classes, with a minimum of 35 points earned in three of the four performance sub-categories (other then Showmanship). The remaning 105 points may be won in elective youth activites events.

In short, you run all around the country going to all these shows you have multiple horses and you kick ass....

As of August I needed 7.5 games points, and as of this morning I needed 5.5. So you could say that I choked hard core. Yesterday I ran my best games event (poles) and knock a pole my first heat automatically knocking me out of the points. It rained BUCKETS of water, and I got all these kids to fill for me.. But I killed it and got out of the keyhole. So I was disparing to the tenth degree... But luckily for me Appy people are the BEST. I came out this morning and they all schooled it on there own free will (besides 2 kids that are runing for high point) so i was 3rd in the figure 8 leaving me with 1.5 points left. Went in the barrels got a by. Won 2 more heats and was 2nd... So the that gave me 8 more points finishing my youth superior. Appy people rock I was amazed and touched at how giving they were, I never knew how good a friends I had untill today... Ok i g2g or else i might start crying again!!

I finally did it!

So yeah.. [07 Oct 2005|09:35am]

Last show of the season peopele!!! (maybe)

I am down to the last 5.5 game points of my youth superior...

Anyone else going to Branchville NJ this weekend... We are going to leave soon but i thought i would give you guys a heads up. Rodney (my all around horse) is staying home because it is an outside show and it is going to rain ALOT. But thats NJ for you. So its just me and Benn. Which i guess is good because it will give me more time to visit with all my people that I will miss so much a ll winter long. I hate the winter... oh well.. before you kow it it will be Feb and time to go to Flordia. Ha! okay well wish us luck! we are 4th in the youth poles.. It is our strongest game so hopefullly we can get the needed points and I can be done... If not then we will have to make some decisons. Like Flordia? Missori? North Carolina? Wow that would suck. but what ever. I'll finish them this weekend bc we are really coming together in the poles( figures its the end of the season) So everyone have a fun weekend, stay dry, and wish me luck
